For many people, the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) feels like the arrival of a monster — one that threatens jobs, creativity, and even human purpose.
We see headlines forecasting the “end of work,” videos warning of “AI domination,” and endless reports predicting massive job displacement.
Behind this narrative sits a deep fear — a fear that the future belongs not to humans, but to machines.

This fear, however, is not new. Humanity has always been haunted by the tools it creates — from the printing press and the steam engine to the computer and now AI. Each time, we feared the end. Each time, we adapted, evolved, and thrived.

Breaking the Myth: The Monster Is Not AI

AI is not the monster; our perception of it is.
What often fuels this perception is not the truth, but the story we are told — a story written, published, and amplified by those who profit from our fear or our dependency.
Many of the studies and reports about the “impact of AI” are funded by technology companies themselves — firms whose market value depends on shaping public perception. The same phenomenon has happened before: when giant corporations funded “research” to promote the benefits of formula milk over breastfeeding, or the supposed health superiority of corn oil over natural animal fats.

Fear, after all, is a powerful business model.

The AI narrative follows the same pattern — a grand capitalist cycle built on continuous growth. Capitalism thrives not by celebrating what it has achieved, but by constantly demanding what’s next. It has no long memory; it feeds on novelty. AI, therefore, is not only a technological revolution but also capitalism’s latest invention to sustain its own expansion.

AI and Capitalism: The Engine of Endless Growth

Capitalism is, by its very nature, an engine that must keep running. It cannot rest on the laurels of the past — it must always create new needs, new dependencies, new fears, and new hopes.
The steam engine, the assembly line, the computer, and now AI — each represents a new chapter in the same story of continuous growth.

But capitalism, no matter how inventive, will never surpass the collective intelligence and spiritual resilience of humankind.
The human mind, when united by creativity, collaboration, and faith, has always proven stronger than any single invention it produces. We created the wheel — and with it, civilization. We created computers — and with them, communication and connection. And we created AI — not to replace ourselves, but to extend our own capacity to think, imagine, and create.

Faith as the Anchor of Perspective

As a Muslim, my view of AI is grounded not in fear, but in faith.
Faith reminds us that technology does not control destiny — Allah does.
No algorithm, no model, no machine can alter what the Creator has decreed.

Allah said in the Holy Qur’an:

“And if Allah touches you with hurt, there is none who can remove it but He; and if He intends any good for you, there is none who can repel His Favour which He causes it to reach whomsoever of His slaves He will. And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
[Yūnus – 107]

This verse centers our understanding: the source of benefit and harm is not human invention, but Divine will.
AI cannot harm us unless Allah permits it, and it cannot benefit us except through His mercy.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) beautifully reinforced this truth in the following Hadith:

On the authority of Abu Abbas Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:

One day I was behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) [riding on the same mount] and he said,
“O young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]: Be mindful of Allah and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, then ask Allah [alone]; and if you seek help, then seek help from Allah [alone]. And know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, they would not benefit you except with what Allah had already prescribed for you. And if they were to gather together to harm you with anything, they would not harm you except with what Allah had already prescribed against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.”

It was related by at-Tirmidhi, who said it was a good and sound hadeeth.

Another narration, other than that of Tirmidhi, reads:
“Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. Recognize and acknowledge Allah in times of ease and prosperity, and He will remember you in times of adversity. And know that what has passed you by [and you have failed to attain] was not going to befall you, and what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and hardship with ease.”

This Hadith perfectly complements the verse from Surah Yūnus. It reminds us that control belongs to Allah alone, and everything — whether harm or benefit — unfolds by His decree.

No matter how powerful AI becomes, it remains bound by the same universal truth: the pens have been lifted, and the pages have dried. Our faith, not our fear, should guide how we perceive and engage with technology.

Similarly, our purpose in life is not to feed or serve the machines we create, nor to sustain endless cycles of production and consumption.
Our purpose is much higher and much simpler — to worship, to serve, and to live in harmony with the will of our Creator.

“And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone). I seek not any provision from them (i.e. provision for themselves or for My creatures) nor do I ask that they should feed Me (i.e. feed themselves or My creatures). Verily, Allah is the All-Provider, Owner of Power, the Most Strong.”
[Adh-Dhāriyāt – 56–58]

This divine reminder removes the illusion of control. Capitalism seeks infinite growth; Allah seeks sincere worship. Capitalism measures value in profit; Allah measures it in purpose.
And in that contrast lies peace — because when we remember who truly provides, fear loses its grip.

The Limits of Human Creation

No matter how advanced our machines become, their creation will always remain within the bounds of human limitation — and far below divine creation.
Even the most powerful AI cannot create life, consciousness, or a soul.

“O mankind! A similitude has been coined, so listen to it (carefully): Verily! Those on whom you call besides Allah, cannot create (even) a fly, even though they combine together for the purpose. And if the fly snatched away a thing from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. So weak are (both) the seeker and the sought.”
[Al-Hajj – 73]

This verse beautifully captures the limits of human power — a humbling reminder that the act of creation belongs to Allah alone.
Our inventions, however impressive, remain mere tools within His design.

From Fear to Discovery

The fear that “AI will take our jobs” assumes that human worth is tied solely to labor. But our real worth lies in our ability to think, imagine, love, and create — qualities that no machine can replicate.
AI will undoubtedly change the nature of work, just as every major invention did before it. Yet, history shows that each disruption also births new industries, new crafts, and new possibilities.

The difference lies in how we respond.
We can either resist change in fear or embrace it in faith — learning, adapting, and using AI as a tool to enhance our creativity and solve human problems, not deepen them.

A Call to Perspective

Let us not allow fear or capitalism to define our relationship with AI. Let us instead reclaim it as a reflection of our collective intelligence — a reminder of what the human mind can achieve when guided by purpose, humility, and faith.

As I reflect on all this, I am reminded of Dale Carnegie’s timeless book How to Stop Worrying and Start Living.
If I may borrow and slightly adapt that title, I would say:

“How to Stop Worrying and Continue Living.”

Embrace AI and Machine Learning.
Try them. Play with them. Discover them. Learn about them.
Use them to enhance your creativity and find new ways to handle your daily challenges.

Because life, faith, and human intelligence will always continue — with or without the next invention.
